Volunteer in Chile

Volunteer

There is a huge gap between rich and poor people in Chile. Many families live in poverty and are dependant on external help. Ill and handicapped children are often repudiated, do not have a home and as a consequence have to stay at hospitals or children's homes.
Experience the shady sides of life in Latin America and help giving hope to some people.
In co-operation with different social institutions and non-profit organizations we offer various voluntary work projects in Chile. Usually, you work directly with the relevant people and are responsible for the care of ill and homeless children, handicapped or old people, homeless or support of the Mapuche Indians.
Duration of volunteer You choose the duration of your volunteer completely according to your schedule and your wishes (1 - 6 months). In order to have sufficient time to become familiar with the country and the people and to adjust to the language and to your volunteer position, we recommend you to allow at least two months for your volunteer in Chile.

Projects: day cares, sports supports, mature adults help, hospitals, indigene villages, etc.

Classes: 4 weeks Group Lessons (20 hrs a week) minimum prior your proyect start.
Our group classes have a maximum of 6 people to ensure personalized instruction. Students progress through the levels and every two weeks exams are given to re-assign advancing students into their new classes.

Accommodation Optional:  Shared apartment (single and double options) family home-stay half board.
If your program is longer than 3 months we will recommend to take an accommodation with only no for more than 8 weeks, and find your own place for less money.

Schedule: 2007- 2008  Start date any Monday

Application: Just e-mail us your resume (if possible in Spanish) with a recent photo. If your Spanish skills are not that good - don't worry - Icambio team will do the translation and/or correction of your resume. If required we also adjust your application to Chilean standards. At least 4 weeks prior your program start.

- Desired working field, planned duration of the volunteer and preferences regarding accommodation, Spanish background (Spanish intermediate levels is required)

From the time of your application for an internship a one-time registration and handling fee of US$ 50 (non refundable) will be due. This fee includes the translation and/or adjustment of your resume as well as the approach with possible companies for your volunteer.
